About Thoracoscopy Surgery
A thoracoscope is an instrument used to study and treat chest cavity diseases in patients. Under general anesthesia or sedation, a surgeon or pulmonologist specialist performs this procedure to:
● Identify and understand any sort of abnormalities in the pleura, lungs or mediastinum.
● To acquire tissue samples from the lung lining, pleural spaces, chest wall, mediastinum, and pericardium.
● Collect tissues for examination and diagnose any inflammation, cancer or infection.
● Remove small lung tumours or tissues and drain pus or excess fluid in the pleural cyst or cavity.
● Place medicine and other treatments directly into the lungs.

Why Thoracoscopy ?
It is done to examine cancers in the chest cavity. It helps in getting tissue samples from the following:
● Lungs lining
● Pleural Spaces
● The membrane that surrounds the heart
● Space between the lungs
● Excessive daytime sleepiness
● Difficulty in sleeping
A thoracoscopy is done in the hospital’s operation room under general anaesthesia. A patient may be asked to stay in the hospital for 1 to 4 days after the thoracoscopy. Today, make an appointment with Dr Ankit Rathi to understand more about thoracoscopy surgery.
