About Chest Tube
Chest tube insertion is done to evacuate fluid, blood or air from the pleural space around the patient’s lung and heart. A hollow plastic tube is inserted between ribs and the inner lining visceral pleural and outer lining parietal pleura of the chest cavity during the process. The procedure is done in cases of a collapsed lung, trouble inhaling due to accumulated air or fluid, lung infection, lung bleeding after trauma, or fluid accumulation because of lung diseases.
