Bronchoscopy is a therapeutic and diagnostic procedure that helps doctors understand chest diseases. A bronchoscope is inserted into the patient’s airways through the mouth or nose. The light and camera are attached to the instrument to check the bronchi and bronchioles of the lungs. Through bronchoscopy following things can be detected:
- Any abnormalities in the airway,
- Get the infectious samples of the tissues,
- Evaluate bleeding part of airways and
- Remove any foreign object in the air path.
Bronchoscopy Symptoms
Here are Many side effects patients might experience from BRONCHOSCOPY:
- 1. Unexplained lung growth, lymph node changes or atelectasis
- 2. Inhaled toxin
- 3. Obstruction of a bronchial tube
- 4. Unsuitable lung after transplant
- 5. Hemoptysis
- 6. Suspected interstitial lung disease
Bronchoscopy Treatment
Bronchoscopy is of two types: Rigid and flexible bronchoscopy.
Flexible bronchoscopy: It is more prominent as compared to the other one and is done under local anaesthesia, but general anaesthesia can be given if required. A lighted, flexible, thin long tube is inserted into the airways to diagnose.
Rigid bronchoscopy: A straight hollow long metal tube is inserted into the narrow airways under general anaesthesia. This method is useful in lung bleeding, removing sample tissues for biopsy, or removing blockages from the pipe.
